KAMCHATKA PENINSULA , RUSSIA, 2005, 2006
Client Representative, write survey specifications for 2D land seismic program and supervise local survey contractor for start up of RTK GPS for CEP International.

Shallow water seismic, Bangladesh
BRASIL, 1999

Transition Zone seismic survey on the north east coast of Brasil. Responsibilities included data processing, client liason, and RTK and DGPS survey operations management.

BANGLADESH, 1998
Analysis and re-processing of tidal corrections to a shallow water seismic survey in Bangladesh. The report to the client detailed the obstacles found and solutions required for bathimetry in this dynamic shallow water environment. General technical support, assistance and recommendations were made to the survey operations on crew.

EGYPT, 2005
Survey Supervisor managing navigation data acquisition, processing and QC for trnasition zone seismic.

  Geco Prakla Schlumberger

Senior surveyor and department head for two years, I was given substantial responsibility in achieving reliable, safe and efficient survey and navigation operations.

USA, 1998
Land Seismic
My posting in East Texas brought a prototype Inertial/GPS backpack from alpha testing into production operation. Initially my roles included acquisition of test data, industrial design and product development.  Introducing the product to a working environment required creating a specialized survey department for the system, including data handling processes, operator training and operations management.

VENEZUELA, 1997

3D Transition Zone Seismic, Orinoco Delta Differential navigation onshore and offshore on boats, jack up barges, air boats, Marsh Masters and Marsh Buggies on sea, river, mud flats, swamp and savannah grasslands in the Orinoco Delta. The three large projects were particularly demanding in terms of operational logistics, departmental management (in Spanish) and differential GPS system management on a range of different vehicles and environments.

Marsh Buggy, Venezuela

RTK VenezuelaVENEZUELA, 1997
3D Land Seismic
Provided technical support for the startup of RTKGPS surveying. Conventional crews were working through pine plantations, with limited production and inadequate control. The RTKGPS provided control densification along forest roads and high production rates in any  unforested areas suitable for GPS.
ARGENTINA, 1996
3D Transition Zone Seismic, Neuquen.
Land Survey Department Head, responsible for the project control survey, RTK production surveying and access mapping. Crew and client communications were in Spanish. Poor equipment reliability hindered production with cable damage occurring on a daily basis. I developed lightweight, hard shelled backpacks for the RTK units which alleviated this problem. The 6 months spent in Argentina helped to strengthen my management and Spanish language skills.

VENEZUELA, 1995
Nortech Surveys (Canada), Provided technical support to a Solid State Geophysical 3D seismic crew. Responsible for the static GPS control survey, differential GPS/Altimeter production survey staking and access mapping. Barometric altimeter modelling improved the accuracy of the GPS elevations to a suitable survey specification. Duties included survey management, logistics, data management, operator supervision (in Spanish), client liaison (in Spanish).

GPS and Gravity base station, Ethiopia

ETHIOPIA 1993
Nortech Surveys (Canada)
on a Western Geophysical seismic crew in a hostile Somali occupied region of Ethiopia, incorporated static and kinematic applications of GPS.

In addition to providing a control network for the seismic surveyors I worked on applying Kinematic GPS to the acquisition of gravity and magnetics data on a regional level, to optimize the design of the seismic survey.

Conflict in the area, from the war between Ethiopia and Somalia in the seventies to current tribal conflict amongst the Somalis, has made the atmosphere one of anarchy and violence. I had a number of encounters such as being kidnapped, involved in a riot and gunfights, as I would travel in a single vehicle, often in remote areas, ahead of the more controlled environment of the seismic survey.

GPS Seismic Control, Yemen

YEMEN, 1992
Nortech Surveys (Canada)
Contracted to provide GPS control on a seismic oil exploration project for CGG.  The survey included monumentation,  project planning, GPS operating, data processing, liaison with the client and surveyors and producing the final report.

  GeoSpectrum (Australia)

AUSTRALIA, 1985
Geo-Sepctrum Australia
Working for as an assistant on Doppler control surveys in central Queensland. Geophysical control and well positions were surveyed using Magnavox 1502 doppler satellite receivers, and conventional trigonometric heighting.
