AUSTRALIA
& WESTERN SAMOA, 1990
Sagem Australasia,
the Australian distributor of Ashtech GPS products, contracted
my services for the management of GPS field projects and temporary
GPS office management.
I
conducted a GPS control survey for Savaii, Western Samoa,
after a cyclone devastated the island. The project responsibilities
included working in conjunction with the Surveyor General
of Western Samoa, training a team of local surveyors to operate
the receivers, survey network design and implementation, data
processing and compilation of the final report.
Other GPS projects for Sagem included providing control for
four open cut coal mines for BHP in central Queensland,
Australia. These surveys went smoothly and the sites were
surveyed, results computed and reports submitted on-site.

AUSTRALIA,
1990
Management of GPS and conventional survey projects.
The first of these was a feasibility mapping survey for the
VFT, the proposed Sydney to Melbourne high speed train link.
An extensive GPS network was surveyed for photogrammetric
mapping and for future control. Due to the heavy forest canopy,
portable towers were used to raise the antennae.
I
was responsible in all aspects of the GPS survey for the photogrammetric
mapping control of a coastal municipality on the NSW south
coast, Australia for BHP. Tasks included project management,
planning, logistics, operating, data processing. |

on a series of projects as a GPS operator, including an offshore
gas platform monitoring project, a control network survey for the
NSW survey grid, and geoid determination for the state of South
Australia. These applications demanded the highest precision GPS,
using dual frequency Texas Instruments TI4100 GPS receivers.
